PONY and HORSE RIDES
While in the Dunsborough/ Yallingup area take a drive to Mirravale Riding School and enjoy a taste of country life. There are various rides and lessons available including Pony Rides which are very popular with the little folk. Parents lead the ponies around the property and the kids just love it and talk of it for days.
Older children and adults can choose Trail Rides or Twilight Rides through the beautiful Leeuwin Naturaliste National Park. Don’t forget the camera to record it for “show and tell” at school.
Mirravale Riding School is situated Cnr Biddle & Caves Rd, Yallingup. When the horse riding is over and everyone hungry it is a good idea to head along Biddle Rd to Commonage Rd to enjoy a legendary Simmo’s ice cream.
ICE CREAM
Even those with the best of intentions weaken when they see the fabulous selection of ice cream. Sophisticated Mascarpone Fig, Irish Coffee, Rum and Raisin and Brandy Egg Nog have adults standing in front of the counter unable to make a decision. Imagine how hard it is for the kids trying to decide whether to have brightly coloured Bubblegum, Watermelon or stick to the usual and have their favourite Chocolate ice cream. Coffees, Milkshakes, Panini’s and awesome Sundaes just make it even harder to choose.
Simmo’s are now in Margaret River and Mandurah but the original Simmo’s in the rural setting of Commage Rd is definitely our favourite. Lush lawn and beautiful large trees provide a lovely setting particularly on a hot summer’s day.
The ice cream eating emu is a great attraction to the kids and overseas visitors. The new upgraded Mini Golf is popular with families and the playground and rides keeps the kids busy and happy.
Definitely a must do place. A top spot in the southwest!!
MAZE
Yallingup Maze can be enjoyed by the whole family. Adults can sit and enjoy a coffee and cake or read a magazine while the kids run around and play in the maze. Have a family picnic in the lovely grounds (picnic tables are provided) and enjoy a relaxed day out at the Yallingup Maze, Caves Rd, Yallingup.
FISHING AND CRABBING
Dunsborough‘s beaches and surrounding coastline can provide hours of entertainment for kids and parents alike. Fishing for whiting, herring, bream and many other species from the shore is both fun and frequently productive. Crabs can be caught by both scoop nets and drop nets and make a welcome addition to any dinner plate.
CHILDREN’S PLAY AREAS
A walk along the beachfront in Old Dunsborough and Quindalup provides access to numerous play areas and paddocks of green grass for them to run around on. Many wineries also cater to the kids with many having play areas or providing other forms of entertainment.
