Dunsborough Day Trips

There are plenty of ways to pass time in Dunsborough and the surrounding Margaret River Region.

We thought a description of our day may be of interest to those pondering this as a holiday destination.

We are staying in old Dunsborough which is about 20 minutes walk from town. You can take a three minute drive if you want, but why waste an opportunity to enjoy a lovely walk alongthe beach front.

A lovely walk from Old Dunsborough into town

So a walk from Old Dunsborough into town commences the day.

Sometimes we have a coffee and breakfast, but generally we buy the paper then head back home and have our breakfast overlooking Geographe Bay. We think we will drive across to Yallingup, then turn south down Caves Road towards Margaret River. Each side of Caves Road has vineyards, most of which have superb restaurants as well as superb wines. Take your pick, you will not be disappointed.

Art galleries, breweries, bakeries, a maze and deer farm can also be visited.

We decided to visit Flutes, a delightful ambiance on the edge of a small lake. The lake is actually a dammed stream and overflows a wall to meander through other properties to the coast. Part of the vineyard is visible from the restaurant, and the restaurant is separate from the wine tasting / sales and art gallery building.

The menu is extensive and the food excellent. A good wine selection is available in addition to the vineyard produce of Brookland Estate. After lunch we drive to Cowarumup via Cowarumup Bay Road and call in to Olio Bello for some parmesan infused olive oil. The sampling of their produce is worth the visit and the various styles and flavours of olive oil will not disappoint.

There are only so many tastings one can do in a day so we drive back to Dunsborough via Simmo’s Icecream Farm for our dessert.
